Front Roe Travel Guide: Granada, Spain

For Easter break, we took the girls to sunny Spain for a few days and it didn’t take me more than a second to morph into holiday mode. After a short stop in Marbella, we drove from the seaside to the breathtaking city of Granada and below are all our favourite spots:

Stay:

We stayed at the Hotel Palacio Gran Vía and loved it! It’s an old converted bank with plenty of charm, family-friendly, with the perfect location as well as lovely staff and service. The best part is drinks at golden hour on their rooftop terrace overlooking the city (the best one in the city if you ask me!).

They offered a discount code for you to use if you are also planning to have your own Granada adventure: 10LouiseRoe

Coffee:

We love our coffee and found an excellent coffee shop serving Colombian beans right by the food market and the cathedral, Sur Coffee Corner.

Visit:

The Alhambra was absolutely spectacular. This palace and fortress complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved monuments of Islamic architecture. Definitely book a tour in advance and wear comfy shoes!

We took a three-hour private tour at 9 am, the earliest spot available, and I cannot recommend this enough, it was worth every penny. We learned so much from our guide and went around backwards which meant avoiding the crowds.

La Catedral de Granada, a stunning cathedral and one of Spain’s and Europe’s largest. It’s located right in the city centre and is considered one of the most important and well-preserved examples of Renaissance architecture. The interior is adorned with the most beautiful and elaborate carvings, paintings, and sculptures.

Eat:

We had a lovely family dinner at sunset overlooking the city at El Huerto de Juan Ranas- you have to try their delicious local cheesecake!

And if you like churros, Café Fútbol is the place to go. For a traditional tapas lunch: Los Manuelos

Antique Hunting:

You know me, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity of antique hunting in Granada and have absolutely loved Ruiz Linares Antiques.
