SC Prime to Close at Suncoast, William B’s Steakhouse in the Works

If you’re the typical Las Vegas visitor, you’ve probably never been to the Suncoast. It’s a local’s casino, about 15 minutes west of The Strip.

Still, scoop is scoop, so we’re sharing this news. You’ll manage.

Suncoast’s longtime steakhouse, SC Prime, is closing after dinner service on Oct. 28, 2023.

Another concept, William B’s Steakhouse, is in the works for the off-Strip casino where we once saved the life of a guest and her pets. We are not making this up.

Suncoast was originally going to be called the Sundance, but the film festival nixed that idea.

Anyway, SC Prime opened at Suncoast in November 2008.

The name always sort of bugged us, as “SC” presumably represents “Suncoast,” which is all one word. Don’t get us started about how DTLV is used for “Downtown Las Vegas.”

SC Prime was on the hotel’s second floor. We always liked it, but rarely went, which was part of the problem, as the restaurant didn’t have much visibility.

Boyd Gaming is going with a William B’s Steakhouse. Apparently, there are William B’s restaurants at other Boyd Gaming casinos, including Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa and Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino, whatever those might be. Look, this isn’t Vital Indiana or Vital Illinois. Wherever those might be. We went to public school.

Fun fact: There was a steakhouse at Stardust called William B’s. Boyd Gaming purchase Stardust and imploded it for its Echelon project, abandoned when the economy went south. The site is currently home to Resorts World and Boyd is still a little broken over how it all went down.

The new William B’s will be located on the first floor, just off the casino, in the former Salvatore’s Italian Restaurant space. We also like Salvatore’s, and rarely went. Starting to see a pattern here?

Anyway, the William B’s name was inspired by co-founder of Boyd Gaming, Bill Boyd. Read more.

He was Executive Chair of the Board of Directors for Boyd from 2008 to 2023, recently stepping down because he was tired of people complaining about so many buffets closing.

Kidding. No, really, people complain way too much about that.

Here’s some inside skinny: Buffets lose money, slots make money.

While we’re on the subject, the Suncoast’s buffet space was recently turned into a high limit slot room.

We haven’t seen the menu for William B’s yet, but we’re betting it has everything except oysters. That’s because the restaurant will be located right next to the casino’s oyster bar, Brigg’s Oyster Co.

You know we’ll be checking the new place out, so stay tuned.
