After a chaotic third season, it was difficult to imagine which direction the show would head this season. Thankfully, the show returns to its core themes of friendship, loyalty, and found family, elements that defined its early success, breathing new life into the series. The story refocuses on the tight-knit Pogues as they face personal and external challenges while searching for yet another treasure, this time, it is the infamous Blackbeard’s legendary treasure. The treasure hunt not only drives the plot forward but also reaffirms that the Pogues aren’t just adventurers—they’re a family bound by circumstances and hardship. The theme of “found family” is especially highlighted as the group sticks together despite internal conflicts and outside threats, emphasizing the emotional core of the series.

The stakes feel higher than ever as the Pogues set out on their most dangerous quest yet: finding Blackbeard’s treasure. This plotline, rooted in North Carolina’s pirate history, adds a rich historical layer to the season. The notorious pirate’s ties to the region lend a sense of real-world legend to the story, making the treasure hunt feel more grounded in local lore. The mystery surrounding Blackbeard’s captain’s log suggests that this adventure will take the Pogues into darker and more perilous territory, setting up an exciting second half. As someone who did a ghost tour in Beaufort, NC—where Blackbeard’s house still stands—the connection to this local history in the show felt especially meaningful and added an extra layer of excitement for me this season.

Fans of the pairing of JJ and Kiara will be thrilled as their romance finally begins to blossom. Kiara’s grounded and caring nature offers JJ a sense of balance without trying to change who he is. She respects him, flaws and all, recognizing that his reckless, adventurous spirit is a core part of him, while still helping him navigate his emotional struggles. Their chemistry is undeniable, and Kiara’s ability to embrace JJ’s wild side while offering stability creates a meaningful connection between them.

At the same time, Sarah and John B’s relationship continues to be the emotional backbone of the series. Their bond feels stronger than ever, demonstrating what true love is really about—overcoming obstacles together, staying loyal, and supporting one another through every challenge. Their romance isn’t just about the excitement of treasure hunts but also about the depth of their emotional connection, making them a standout couple on the show.
