WWE’s Oba Femi left a void to be filled last week. The Ruler successfully defended, then vacated, the NXT Championship to kick off a new era on the third brand. GM Ava revealed the plans for the title tonight, and now we know some of the possible competitors set for the championship six-man ladder match.
The Final Boss of NXT kicked the night off by revealing that we’d crown a new champion on February 3rd. With a brand new group of callups from Evolve and LFG hitting the mat, WWE fans will be seeing some fresh faces challenging for gold. In fact, one former NXT Champion confirmed as much.
Thanks for the submission!
Ricky Saints revealed in a backstage segment that three newcomers will be competing in two qualifying matches next week. LFG winner Shiloh Hill, who nearly won the TNA International Title tonight, will be facing NXT veteran Josh Briggs. The other match will pit beloved Evolve star Sean Legacy, who has impressed a few times on Tuesday nights before, taking on Eli Knight.
Not only that, as the Absolute confirmed, he’s in the ladder match! No qualifier for Pretty Ricky, the former NXT Champion, has a guaranteed spot.
Why was the WWE NXT Championship vacated?
On NXT New Year’s Evil last week, then-champion Oba Femi successfully defended against TNA’s X-Division Champion Leon Slater. The Bringer of War was taken to the limit by The Youngest In Charge, but ultimately, Oba Femi was too much for the youngest ever TNA Champ.
After the match, Femi left the championship in the ring and walked away. Several NXT stars have been called up to WWE’s main roster in recent months, including Femi’s longtime rivals Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans. And now, Femi’s set to join them. Per a report from Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, the former Alabama shot putter is on his way to Monday Night RAW.
Not only that. The two-time NXT Champion and longest reigning NXT North American Champion is apparently set to be a major player on the brand. RAW’s already full of some powerful heavy hitters like Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, both of whom held NXT gold, as well as Gunther. It won’t be an easy time on Monday Nights, but Oba Femi has the potential to have the quickest rise to the top since Brock Lesnar.
