Matt Walsh reacts after Karmelo Anthony is sentenced to 35 years for the murder of Austin Metcalf

Matt Walsh has shared his thoughts after Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years for the murder of Austin Metcalf. He slammed Anthony and his parents and even claimed that he deserved a bigger punishment.

Karmelo Anthony was accused of stabbing Metcalf in April last year. Anthony was in Centennial High School, while Metcalf was in Memorial High School, and they met at the Frisco Independent School District track meet. However, an incident led to a scuffle between the two, and Anthony stabbed Metcalf, who was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.

They were both 17 at the time, but Anthony was tried as an adult due to Texas laws. On Tuesday, June 9, a jury convicted him, and he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Political commentator Matt Walsh shared his thoughts on the trial via multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter). He sarcastically wrote in one post:

“This is so devastating. Imagine being a black parent tonight. How do you protect your children? If they go out and stab just one person, they might go to prison. It’s like a black man in America can’t even murder anyone anymore. Unimaginable. Jim Crow all over again. I’m furious.”

He added in another post:

“He deserves life (actually he deserves death) but 35 years is more than I thought they’d give him. All in all, this has been a win for justice.”

Karmelo Anthony’s lawyers had claimed that he stabbed Austin Metcalf in self-defense. According to The Guardian, they alleged that Metcalf and his brother confronted Anthony.

On the other hand, the prosecution brought out many witnesses and claimed that Anthony allegedly told Austin Metcalf:

“Touch me and find out.”

Texas district court judge John Roach Jr read out the final verdict on Tuesday.

Matt Walsh posted numerous tweets after Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday for stabbing Austin Metcalf. He welcomed the decision and asserted that he was “guilty”. He even mentioned the black community, writing in one post:

“Karmelo Anthony is yet another young black male who threw his life away — and more importantly took away an innocent person’s life — for no reason. It’s time for the black community to stop rallying around and defending these sociopath thugs and instead work on raising children who won’t make these kinds of insane, self-destructive choices in the first place.”

He labeled Karmelo Anthony a “murderous thug” in another post and his parents “shitty”. He even dismissed rumors of a potential protest against the verdict, claiming that “optics aren’t good” for people. He added:

“Whether or not there is mass rioting in response to a Karmelo guilty verdict depends entirely on whether or not the Democrat Party (who would have to fund and organize it, like they always do) thinks that Karmelo is a sympathetic and useful martyr for them. I don’t think he is. Even by the very low standards established for this kind of thing.”

He asserted that ‘riots aren’t organic’ and that the “Left chooses when to pull that lever.”
