RCB decide against hosting a title victory parade in Bengaluru to avoid crowd unrest amid CM’s oath ceremony: Reports

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 winners, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will not be staging a title victory parade in their home city to avoid an unfortunate incident like last year, where several fans lost their lives in a stampede. The Rajat Patidar-led side successfully defended their title with a five-wicket win over the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Sunday, May 31.
However, the fans will not avail an opportunity to celebrate the triumph with the squad in Bengaluru, as the franchise deems it wise not to host a parade. According to a report by Sportstar, a major reason behind RCB’s decision stems from the fact that the city will already be in a frenzied and busy state due to DK Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony as the newly appointed chief minister of the state.
“The function is scheduled to be held at Lok Bhavan at 4.10 p.m. and the Governor’s residence is in close proximity to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The political function is expected to attract a massive crowd from across the State,” the report mentions.
“It is highly unlikely that there will be any activities in Bengaluru. There are certain guidelines in place, and we need to stick to them,” a RCB source indicated to PTI.
The city’s police personnel will be largely occupied with maintaining security for the high-profile political event, not leaving much room for RCB to conduct their celebrations, while trying to avoid a debacle like the last time around.
Fans in the city were also urged to refrain from elaborate celebrations on the street after RCB’s title win, with indoor celebration being encouraged by the local city police force.
Furthermore, with only a short window between the culmination of the IPL season and the resumption of international cricket for several major teams, there is a question of availability as well. Team India will face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in Mullanpur from June 6 onwards, while Australia and New Zealand are also involved in upcoming tours.
Rajat Patidar dedicated RCB’s IPL 2026 title to fans who passed away in the stampede last year
RCB captain Rajat Patidar dedicated the IPL 2026 title to the 11 fans who lost their lives near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebrations that had unfolded after the franchise’s maiden title win in 2025.
“We dedicate this trophy to our fans, actually not fans, family members, who passed away in the tragedy last year,” Rajat Patidar said during the post-match presenation (via India Today).
RCB became only the third franchise in IPL history to win back-to-back titles after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI).
